## about

I'm Max. I start at the University of Washington's Paul G. Allen School this fall where I will be studying computer science and statistics. I care about human-centered AI, alignment, and AI policy: how these AI systems work, how they interact with humans, and how they impact the world as a whole.

Before that: I co-authored a paper at the NAACL 2025 student research workshop on theory-of-mind in LLMs, built the world's largest difficulty-graded string orchestra database, and earned Eagle Scout*

Also: mid-distance runner (2:02 800m), violinist and composer (~20 works, 3 premieres), and an outdoor enthusiast.

  1. [1] "DIG-DIS: Transformer-Based Models vs State Space Models on Complex Theory of Mind Reasoning Tasks" — presented at NAACL 2025. NAACL 2025 — student research workshop (SRW).

    role: experimental pipeline design lead. Contributed two novel theory-of-mind datasets, a framework for a third, and evaluations of representative model families on long-context ToM tasks.
